Mike Nicholson's Aeroworks Extra 300...

I recently added this 35% Aero works Extra 300 to my hanger, and would like to include it in my online hanger. This is a 78" wingspan aircraft with a Firstplace 40cc gas engine. Last fall I started the process of getting rid of all but one of my glo fueled engines and going to gas. This is the fourth. The engine is not yet broken in, but runs extremely well and the airplane flies on track.

My problem has been with the landing gear. The gear that came with the airplane was too light and just crumbled. Then I sent it into TNT to make a new T-6 gear, and after three or four landings, the gear severely bent again. When I ordered the gear from TNT, I had just told them what airplane it was for, and sent the old gear for sizing. They never asked me how much it weighed and I never thought to ask them. Well, after the gear caving in again, I weighed it, and it turned out to be 16.7 lbs., which increases the thickness of the gear. TNT says they should have asked me and are making it up to me. Why Aero works put such a light weight gear on a high end plane is another question. If I could hand launch it, my problems would be over as it is a terrific flier.

Needless to say, Mike is behind those windows working on his Balsa USA Fokker D-8 fighter. He was going to send a copy to the Sequim Chamber of Commerce, but decided it would not go well with their "330 Days of Sunshine" campaign in Sequim. What a winter not to have gone to Arizona. A good time to build though!
