Charlie's first airplane was built by John Schuy, who provides details about its construction... A sport airplane, fuselage based on Joe Bridi's RCM Trainer with wing and tail surfaces using the Bridi "Krafty 60" design. The semisymmetrical wing section of the Krafty has superior slow flight characteristics, while it retains good aerobatic capability. I changed the tail surfaces because the rudder extends below the stab for a better position and also, I simply like the looks, better than having the rudder stop on top of the stab. A Super Tiger G45 is side mounted to coordinate the tank position in line with the carburetor, also helps keep the exhaust below the airplane. The RCM Trainer fuselage is wider than that of the Krafty, makes it easier to install the equipment. The Krafty is a great advanced trainer/sport airplane which is still available as a kit from Bluejay Airplane Kits. This company took over the manufacture of many of Joe Bridi's designs after Joe retired. Charlie landing his airplane under the watchful eye of his trainer and grandfather, John Schuy. Here they are preparing to taxi a trainer plane to the runway for takeoff. A "Super Stunt 40" (World Models) ARF with Thunder Tiger 42 plain bearing engine. Ideal trainer/1st sport airplane modified with an aluminum main gear and Fults dual strut nose gear. Nice flyer! Charlie with his dad and grandfather. |
